RAU Klimawand R3 for the new construction area

A new development area is being built on the western edge of the town center of Leutkirch in the Swabian Allgäu. The basic planning objective of the town of Leutkirch is the harmonious integration of a development and settlement structure on the existing edge of the town, with loosening green spaces for the enjoyment and recreation of the future residents of the new quarter.

Of course, the development plan also takes into account the traffic noise emissions from “Hermann-Neuner-Straße” and the “Aulendorf/Leutkirch” railroad line. In addition to the passive noise protection measures stipulated in the development plan, we were commissioned by RAU.bayern to construct an active noise protection measure (LSM) along Hermann-Neuner-Straße with heights of 3.00 m and 130 m long and 4.00 m (140 m long). The planting list of the development plan includes common ivy (Hedera helix), jelängerjelieber (Lonicera caprifolium) or climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea petiolaris) as possible climbing plants.

In principle, active noise protection measures are preferable to passive noise protection measures, as they address the source. In addition, active measures also protect the outside area (e.g. terrace, balcony). For this reason, the ecologically valuable and visually attractive RAU climate wall (R3) is now being used in “Ströhlerweg”, which enables the orientation value according to DIN 18005-1 to be largely complied with for the daytime period on the ground floor.

We planned to start construction on 11.01.2023, but of course construction has already had to be interrupted several times due to the weather. Nevertheless, the 3.00 m high noise barrier has already been completely erected and backfilled. As construction may only take place once the planned active noise protection measures have been implemented, the entire construction team is now working flat out on the 4.00 m wall!
