Coconut mats to protect the children

The municipality of Planegg is investing 1.3 million euros in the renovation of the outdoor facilities of the 30-year-old Martinsried elementary school. This sum is intended to make the ageing schoolyard more suitable for the educational needs of primary school children.

The modern, friendly concept of the Gilching landscape architecture firm Freiraum Plan with many ecological approaches was approved by the local councillors. For example, a “climate forest” will be planted, including a separate cistern to collect rainwater for watering the new trees. Our green RAU climate wall (R3) will fit in perfectly here, but will also provide “a clear structural boundary to the neighboring property while reducing noise emissions”.

In order to minimize disruption to school operations, the construction work was to take place between the Whitsun vacations and the end of the summer vacations. RAU bayern was busy from 17.02. to 04.03.2025. A little longer than our normal – short – construction times, because our large machines and the trades running in parallel meant that conditions around the building were cramped. It also took a few extra days to lay the coconut mats along the track to protect against injuries. But everything went to our satisfaction and when the wall is covered in greenery, it will be a wonderful addition to the new school playground.
