Building in harmony with nature and the landscape
Whenever nature is lost in one place in Bavaria as a result of a construction project, this must be compensated for elsewhere. This is required by law in Bavaria. The aim is to prevent the state of nature and the landscape from deteriorating any further. So-called compensation and replacement areas must be used to create new habitats in order to compensate for interventions in nature. This can be an almost hopeless undertaking for developers. The only option is to make a compensation payment, but this reduces the construction budget.
We at RAU.bayern can now offer a sensible solution here: On our behalf, the engineering firm Lacon Landschaftsconsult examined whether the RAU Klimawand R3 and the RAU Alpin could constitute measures worthy of recognition under species protection law.
The engineers at Lacon came to the conclusion: Yes! They can.
In addition to countless insects such as wild bees, various songbirds, lizards and bats can find habitats as well as feeding and hunting grounds in these noise barriers. While the RAU Alpin offers numerous hiding places for cold-blooded reptiles thanks to its stony surface, breeding habitats can be created in both noise barriers, also through the use of nesting aids.
It is therefore now possible to invest in a RAU Klimawand R3 or RAU Alpin instead of a compensation payment, thus creating the required compensation areas with habitats for wildlife and at the same time effective noise protection for the benefit of people.
If that’s not a win-win situation!
